What is CarbonBuilder Wheat?
Building stable soil carbon in your wheat crop
CarbonBuilder Wheat is one of our ground-breaking microbial products that supports wheat’s natural ability to draw down carbon into cropping soils. CarbonBuilder Wheat is an endophytic fungi applied as a seed dressing, and is compatible with most fungicidal seed treatments in Australia.
CarbonBuilder provides an important tool for growers looking to participate in soil carbon projects and increase crop productivity.
How does it work?
CarbonBuilder Wheat has been developed and extensively tested in Australian cropping soils
The beneficial fungi in CarbonBuilder Wheat is a dark septate ascomycetous fungi belonging to the order Chaetosphaeriales. The members of this genus have been previously reported as saprophytes, commonly found in soil and plant litter from both terrestrial and freshwater habitats. Species from this genus have also been reported as non-pathogenic root endophytes, which colonise the inter/intracellular spaces of the roots.
What are the benefits?
Retain moisture
Improve nutrient uptake
Long-term soil health
Boost crop yield
What are the results?
CarbonBuilder Wheat was extensively tested across Australia during our 2023 small plot field trials. Here are the results.
Across our randomised small-plot trial locations, we observed an average 5.4% increase in total soil carbon when the crop was treated with CarbonBuilder Wheat compared to crop that was not treated. We saw a win-rate of 80% across locations, or an increase in total soil carbon compared to control at 4 out of the 5 locations.
